Over the past 15 years, I have been involved with many MLM ( Multi-level-marketing) and Network Marketing companies at both senior manager level and as a Scientific Advisor. In those roles I advised on, gave public lectures, broadcast and published articles about natural health products produced by those companies.
Many of the companies sold first class products. Most were ethical companies and were run by honest people. However, at root level, the marketing techniques, with their over-hyped sales pitch, made promises in regards possible earnings which ultimately they could not fulfill for 97% of their distributors.
I found that while as a professional health practitioner I could fully endorse their excellent products, I felt more and more uncomfortable in propagating the pushy sales pitch, which I knew to be in most cases pure hype designed to ensnare more distributors into the system.
Network marketing and MLM methods of selling products are fundamentally a first class idea. This way of selling can also offer real potential for people to work for themselves and earn a decent living, while retaining control over their working life.
What was at fault was the basic marketing and distributor training methodology that those companies used.
Over the next few months, I hope -- in this blog -- to address many of the issues I met with in regards network marketing.

Don't lose your shirt, while trying to earn enough money for a suit.
It does not matter how good the product you are selling is......
It does not matter how rewarding the business plan is...........
It does not matter how glossy the company literature is...........
It does not matter how gigantic the Company head office is..........
It does not matter how many diamond rings and pins the company in-country director is wearing.............
It does not matter how nice a person your upline manager is...........
If you try to do business the way the MLM companies teach you to do it, 97% plus of you will lose money on the deal.(and some friends) And the 97% that fail will finance the 3% that succeed. They will also pay for the diamond rings/pins, the 100000 dollars-a-year guru and the luxurious Company HQ.
Even if you are already tied into a company scheme as a distributor, you can learn to turn things around.You don't need to lose your hard-earned and costly level in the marketing plan - unless the company and product you are tied into is so bad that you may be best cutting your losses now, and putting your energies and time into a more worthwhile venture. However, it is my experience that the VERY bad MLM companies do not tend to last very long in this competitive market-place.
Start by firing your upline,and dumping the company training manual.
Tear up your 20 name lists.( You have probably pitched them the deal so often they avoid you now anyway)
Stop jumping out of alley-ways with a desperate look on your face and accosting complete strangers with your frantic sales pitch.
Cancel that 5th meeting you have planned with the red hot prospect who has taken up 12 hours of your time already.
Instead of going to your 10th business opportunity meeting tonight - alone again - go to the cinema, or stay at home with the family while still know what you like.
Instead of going ( and paying hard earned cash for the privilege ) to the razamataz, all bells-and-whistles company jamboree on Saturday to see the top 10 distributors getting a company document case as their distributor of the month award, and listening to the current flavor-of-the-month-100,000-dollar-a-year company guru telling you that anyone can do it - go fishing or shopping.
Even better. Sit at home with your feet up, and read the below-mentioned book. It will be the most productive business move you have made all year.
